The ADC tries to combat bad portrayals and stereotypes of Arab Americans, and educate the public about Arab culture. It was founded in 1980 by James Abourezk, a former US senator. ADC focuses on voting rights, immigration, education discrimination, hate crimes, surveillance and profiling and countering violent extremism.
Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund
MALDEF is an organization that uses communications, advocacy litigation and community education to promote social change. They work to improve various areas such as education, political access, immigrant rights and employment. MALDEF was founded in 1968, and is headed by a 30-person National Board of Directors.
Asian Americans Advancing Justice
AAJC is a non-profit organization that advocates for the rights of Asian Americans. It was founded in Washington, D.C., in 1991. It fights for the civil rights of Asian Americans through litigation, public policy advocacy and education. On their website, they provide a reference for programs that are of interest to Asian American people.
They also directly give information on their website about voting rights and citizenship rules. There is a number provided for a voter hotline, and there is a part of the website where you can report a hateful event that has happened to you.
Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund
The Lacey and Larkin Frontera fund was founded by the founders the Phoenix New Times—Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin. The point of this fund is to lend out support to companies and grassroots organizations that fight for people’s civil rights; with a focus on Hispanic people and people who have just immigrated here.
Michael and Jim are located in Arizona, which is ground zero when it comes to the presence of immigrants and of Hispanic people. There has been a lot of offensive racial profiling that has gone on in the area.
National Organization For Women
NOW is an organization that is all about the rights of women. It is all for women’s health issues such as reproductive rights and abortion rights. It is also against racism, violence against women and hatred against LGBTQIA people. There are chapters all over the United States of America, and it’s members serve as volunteers and activists.
This is the type of organization where you would see it’s members at protests. You can get involved in this organization by becoming a member, starting a chapter and/or participating in lobbying, civic engagement and communications about key issues.
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights consists of more than 200 national organizations that fight for civil rights in America. It is a 501(c)4 organization. From the time of it’s founding in 1950, it has engaged in advocacy and national lobbying efforts. The goal of the Leadership Conference is to work for a more just society.
